VASH’s Mission is to share the Aloha spirit with visitors affected by adversity. Even though vacations are supposed to be happy times, sometimes unfortunate events happen. When far from home, visitors often do not have access to their own support systems and resources. VASH assistance is designed to help visitors cope with and recover from a variety of unfortunate situations, i.e. lost documents, crime, medical emergencies, or death of a loved one. VASH receives referrals from the Hawaiʻi County Police Department, local hospitals, airport security and others. VASH evaluates each situation individually and offer appropriate support services. Volunteers are the heart of VASH. The services to visitors are made possible through the generous contribution of time and talents from a diverse group of trained and compassionate volunteers. With their help and aloha, VASH assists in hundreds of visitors each year.

The Transitions Program has been providing a broad range of services and support to homeless, formerly battered women and their children since 1999. The purpose of the program is to help women obtain and retain permanent housing and to achieve self-sufficiency as they move from homelessness, emergency shelter or other temporary housing into long-term residential stability. The Transitions Program provides case management, intake, needs assessment, advocacy, educational and support programs and referrals. A significant and vital component of the program has been rental assistance. Many of the women in this program are homeless because of domestic violence.

YWCA Kauaʻi strives to improve the emotional, mental, and behavioral wellness of our community. Counseling helps survivors to address the traumatic impact that violence has had on their families, as well as to secure long-term therapeutic interventions. Their therapists are licensed marriage and family therapists, mental health counselors or social workers, or Master’s level therapists working under the supervision of licensed therapists. We provide trauma-informed, client-centered, and culturally-sensitive therapy services in a safe and confidential environment. Our therapists specialize in issues relating to family and/or sexual violence, namely intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and sexual abuse. YWCA Kauaʻi launched the Sexual Assault Treatment Program in 1982 and the Sex Abuse Treatment Program in 1995.
